The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
|
Going back decades. When West Ham played at Chelsea in Oct '67 . It rained all day and even getting to the ground I was soaked through .Standing at the 'shed' end which was open terraces in those days there was no shelter. At least West Ham won3-1 but I was ill for days afterwards.

I can't remember so asked the missus.
She seemed pretty positive that it was when Dani played for us.

March 64 Hillsborough. We beat ManU in the FA Cup semi final. Got drenched at games over the years but that one stands out the most.
Steam rising off our clothing in a packed train on the way home.

8th March 1975, Arsenal away, FA Cup 6th rd, W2-0
Standing right where the covered stand finished, Water was pouring off the roof right on us. Couldn't move, too packed.

Soaked through, freezing cold, shivering and miserable. This should happen to opera goers, not football fans. Opera fans deserve it.

I saw some footage of the game recently and had totally forgotten how bad the playing surface was by the end of the match.
It’s little mentioned when comparing football eras but the playing surfaces, of the top grounds, is these day so much superior in comparison with back then.

Same as gph, Oldham away semi-final. But it was the least of my concerns to be honest.

v. Sheffield United - I think it was around Christmas early 1990's and at the side of the North Bank on the 'shelf'

FA cup replay at QPR, 1978.
We went 1-0 early on but that was as good as it got and they battered us 6-1. Absoultely sheeted it down, a truely miserable night.

I was at that Chelsea game oldtimer mentioned. I was wearing a pacamac! Wettest though, as someone else said, was at Hillsborough for the 1964 Cup semi final. My dad bought towels on the way back to the car so we could dry off a bit. The pictures of the players coming off the pitch at the end are something you wouldn't see now.

Brighton Away, early 90s
3-0 down inside 15 minutes. Liam Brady missed a penalty. Seem to recall it pissed down on an open terrace

There was a game at Craven Cottage a few years back, possibly on a New Years Day?
I walked from Hammersmith and it pissed down heavily all the way.
I think I was in the second row of the Putney Stand where there was no roof at all so continued to get pissed on all game.
Game was crap as I recall (Nolan sent off?).
Left CC and walked back to Hammersmith, still pissing down hard continuously.
One of those games/days when I really wished I hadn't bothered.
